TYPOGRAPHY

After a lecture we had on Tuesday about type and layout, preparing us for the afternoon seminar, I was inspired to make a blog post on the importance of type and typography itself. Coming from quite a graphical background, I have always been fascinated and interested by type and is something I have always spent lots of time on when creating my own designs.

I decided to look at some of the recommended websites such as http://www.typewolf.com, as soon as I clicked on this website I automatically loved it. This blog is a whole archive of information and history of type and it’s extremely aesthetic to the eye. I decided to read up the blog post about their “Top 30 Favourite Sites on Typography” to see what other sites I can add to my reading list.

I also looked on another recommended website called “backcatalogue.co.uk” which holds lots of amazing visuals and theres a whole archive for their work and type and magazine inspiration. The website holds endless amounts of graphically designed posters and promotional material, I have saved a lot of the visuals to use as further inspiration. I love how there is an endless world with type and you can go so many different ways with it to portray a message.

I wanted to write about another website I used a lot for visual inspiration during my Graphic Design A-Level which is: http://www.typographicposters.com. The website is mostly filtered by colour palette and if you type in key words into search, relevant posters will pop up. This website is brilliant for trying to source information and seeing the many ways type can be used to express messages and the relationship between graphically made type and hand rendered typography.
